2004 ford f150 lightning electric fan regulator

sorry for the rambling.Those fans were discontinued in 1990. Has anyone torn into the fan to see what's what? lot so unanswered questions. is ignorance bliss? Wish there was someone who could tell me for sure about these fans. Does anyone know any answers? I always assumed it was to cool the exhaust manifold to keep it from cracking for something like that. I'm wondering if this keeps the injectors from breaking due to over heating after shut down. lately the bearings have been making a lot of noise. I've never heard it run in cooler weather. In the summer a fan will come on a few minutes after shut down and run for maybe 10 or 15 minutes.

I did not know there was an injector cooling fan. Or just take the thing off, and go on my merry way without it? Because obviously, short of going and hopefully finding one in the boneyard that is in good operable condition is probably about as likely as me winning the lottery, and nobody is making reproductions. I've seen some mention of the 90-up trucks using a different fuel pressure regulator, instead of the fan, is this something I should source, to fix whatever issue it was that this blower setup was meant to fix in the first place? So my big question is, since I'm taking the manifolds off to replace the intake/exhaust gaskets and a new set of injectors, can this thing be safely removed? By thing, I mean the Fan, and the Rail it blows air through that sits alongside the fuel rail. As I understand it, this setup was only used in 87-89 and Ford dropped it for the rest of the run of the 4.9. It puts out air, but it's noisy as all hell. Just to check that it even worked, I disconnected it and used a couple jumper wires to put some power to it, and lets just say that the bearing/bushings in the motor are shot. The Fuel Injector Cooling Fan on my '87 F150 never comes on. Ok, so I can't seem to find an actual answer anywhere, so I suppose I'll ask.
